Are you a lock person or a no lock person? I'm definitely in the locking category. Steph used to be one of the no lock people, but I think she's coming around. One day I hope we'll have a place off in the woods where we can leave the doors unlocked. For now I figure locking the doors is just an excuse to have rad hardware. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

For bold & simple, try Baldwin's Chicago handle set:

Or go with levers for a less formal entry door. Like the Lakeshore lever set, also from Baldwin:

 

Emtek's Zeus handle set makes a good budget option:

 

 

Schlage's Century series is an old standby, and great for more traditional homes too. Try it with the Orbit knob for a more streamlined look:

 

For an affordable low-profile look, I quite like the round deadbolt from Emtek/Epitome:

architect's notebook: single-hole bathroom faucets

We like the simple, uncluttered look of a single-hole mounted faucet in the bathroom. Here's a few to get you started:

Hansgrohe's Metro E faucet (above left) has a softer look than most contemporary fixtures, but still manages to work well with our favorite clean lined sinks. List price is $218.  Readers in Europe can opt for the Talis E² (above right) instead.

 

I love the fact that Dornbracht now offers their Tara fixture in white and black, in addition to the classic chrome finishes. A great choice if you want the minimal single-hole faucet but still prefer separate hot and cold handles.

The classic Vola HV-1 (above left), designed by Arne Jacobsen and listed at $975. Also available in colors! Consider Hansgrohe's Axor Uno² (above right) as a budget option at $438.

Two more European high spout options: The KWC Designo at left retails for $650, and the Mithos from PSC lists at $390. Who can resist the wooden lever?

 

A single lever faucet for a more traditional bathroom is a rare find. The Stillmar is a handsome choice from LACAVA for $440.

 

The Längskär from IKEA fits any budget at $150.
